Description

Cherry all year round. You can have this as a drink but also eat the fruit. 

Cherry liqueur

What we need:

  • 2.20 lbs cherries 
  • 700 ml pure alchohol, or raki, or brandy 
  • 2.20 lbs sugar 
  • 1/2 l water 
  • 1 cinnamon stick 
  • 2 - 3 cloves

How to do it:

  1. Pit the cherries. 
  2. Place the fruit in a jar together with the pure alcohol and a little of the sugar (about 5-6 tbsp). Place the jar in the sun for 3-4 weeks and on the first week shake it so that the sugar dissolves completely. 
  3. When the time has passed, separate the drink and make a syrup with the rest of the sugar and the water with the spices. After it has boiled for 3 minutes, strain it and let it cool before you add it to the drink. 
  4. Mix all the ingredients together and set them aside for 1-2 weeks so that the tastes combine.

Additional tips

You can make this drink using sour cherries.

You can leave the cherries whole without pitting them but when you use the fruit in cakes or various sweets then it is best if there is no pit.

If you use brandy to make this recipe know that the colour will change. I used raki for this.
